2003 Sundance Festival
12 Canadian films in the spotlight

December 11, 2002 – Telefilm Canada is proud to announce that there will be a powerful Canadian presence at the 2003 edition of the United States’ prestigious Sundance Festival. Twelve Canadian films have been programmed in the festival’s five international sections, including two full-length features in the Premieres section.

“The breadth of films featured at this year’s Sundance is a measure of the respect that I have gained for Canadian cinema,” says Sundance director Geoffrey Gilmore. “There is definitely an unrecognized new wave in Canada, truly reflective of a level of sophistication and diversity.”

Sheila de La Varende, Director – International Development and Promotion, adds: “An invitation to Sundance is an honour: it’s a festival that is synonymous with excellence. Being selected enhances a film’s visibility, and this visibility is vital, for it supports commercial distribution. Which fits in perfectly with Telefilm’s goals as a cultural investor. Canadian talent deserves wide audiences.”
