Telefilm Canada’s Quebec Office backs two promising English-language features

Montreal, May 15, 2003 – Telefilm Canada’s Quebec Office is proud to announce that, through its regional allocation, it will invest in two new English-language feature film projects that show great promise in terms of creativity, quality and audience appeal.

Telefilm’s regional office allocations, which support projects seeking less than $1 million in financing are intended to foster talent development and a diversity of projects across Canada. Although box-office performance remains a key objective of the Canada Feature Film Fund, it is not the overriding evaluation criterion for these local decisions.

Manners of Dying, by Jeremy Peter Allen produced by Quebec City’s Thalie Productions, is an intriguing psychological drama about a prison warden writing many versions of a letter to the mother of a man condemned to death by lethal injection. Roy Dupuis will star in this adaptation of a Yann Martel short story.

Pure, by Jim Donovan, which will be produced by Montreal’s GPA Films, is a compelling story about four young people searching in their own limited and suburban way for the meaning of life, love, sex and friendship.
