Telefilm Canada kick starts 50 innovative projects through the Canada New Media Fund

Montreal, January 19, 2004 – Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce that it has agreed to support 50 of the 163 projects that were submitted for the September 23rd, 2003 deadline of the Canada New Media Fund.

Of the accepted projects, 16 are for market research and prototyping, 17 for product development and another 17 for marketing.

“We continue to support a diversity of new media products that include a variety of platforms and that are from the imaginations of creators of all backgrounds,” said Richard Stursberg, Telefilm’s Executive Director. “While each of them feature inventive content, their ingenuity also extends to the way they will be promoted. Targeting children, teens and adults, many of these Canadian works are related to popular television shows or will be cross-marketed with consumer products – ultimately helping them to connect with their audiences.”

In response to the vast over-subscription of the Fund, and in consultation with the industry, a new streamlined application process was developed that substantially reduced the initial workload and administrative costs for clients.

The Canada New Media Fund expires March 31, 2004; Telefilm is working closely with the federal government for the renewal of the Fund.
