Telefilm Canada issues new call for French-language projects from regional production companies in Quebec
Montreal, December 10, 2007 – With a new initiative designed to support the development of French-language fiction feature films in the Quebec regions outside of Montreal, Telefilm Canada is aiming to foster skills and facilitate financing for regional productions.
“The Corporation is banking on diverse creativity to ensure the viability of the French-language industry,” said Michel Pradier, Director – Quebec Office and French Operations at Telefilm. “This initiative will encourage the development of regional projects that reflect the rich range of Canada’s Francophone talent.”
To qualify, projects must be for a French-language fiction feature film, have a projected production budget in excess of $1.25 million, and be submitted with an extended synopsis or outline. Successful applicants will have six months to write a first draft script for delivery to Telefilm.
Telefilm’s financial participation will be in the form of interest-free advances of up to 60% of the admissible costs for this development stage, to a maximum of $20,000 per project. In the event that a consulting producer is hired, the maximum will be $25,000.
The project evaluation committee will be composed of representatives of the regional industry, the Quebec City Film and Television Commission and Telefilm Canada.

Developing and promoting the Canadian audiovisual industry
Telefilm Canada is a federal cultural agency dedicated to the development and promotion of the Canadian audiovisual industry. Telefilm provides financial support to the private sector to create distinctively Canadian productions that appeal to domestic and international audiences. The Corporation also administers the funding programs of the Canadian Television Fund.
